A pergola is an outdoor roof system of aluminium posts and beams installed on a terrace, garden or poolside to provide shade and shelter. Modern pergolas offer far more than a fixed sunshade: the roof can open and close by motor, drain rainwater and be completed with lighting and side enclosures.
Types of Pergola
- Bioclimatic (louvred) pergola: rotating aluminium louvres are angled to control shade and airflow; when closed, they keep out rain.
- Retractable fabric pergola: a waterproof fabric roof that opens and closes by motor; an economical solution for large areas.
- Fixed roof pergola: permanent shelter with a polycarbonate, glass or sandwich panel roof.
Where Is It Used?
Villa terraces and poolsides, outdoor seating areas of restaurants and cafés, and hotel and guesthouse gardens are the main applications. In Sarıgerme, Dalyan and Göcek it makes outdoor space usable during summer months when the midday sun is very strong, and lets businesses keep outdoor areas open during spring and autumn rains.
Advantages
- Adjustable shade and natural ventilation.
- Rain protection with integrated drainage.
- Motorised operation by remote control.
- Expandable with LED lighting, side blinds and glass enclosures.
- Rust-free aluminium with a durable powder-coated finish.
Technical Information
In bioclimatic pergolas the louvres can rotate from about 0 to 135 degrees. Rainwater runs from channels in the louvres into gutters in the beams and down inside the posts to the ground. With wind and rain sensors, the roof can change position automatically. Post and beam sections are determined by span and wind load.
Sizes and Installation
Each pergola is made to order. Before installation the floor’s load capacity is checked and posts are fixed to a concrete floor or prepared footing with stainless anchors. For wall-mounted models, connection details are set during the survey. A power supply point is planned for the motor and lighting. Please note that some installations may require municipal permission.
Maintenance
Cleaning the louvres and gutters twice a year and checking the motor and sensors is recommended. During heavy pine needle and pollen periods, gutters should be cleaned more often. With a free survey and measurement, let us review pergola options for your terrace or business together.
