Low-E (low emissivity) comfort double glazing is produced by applying a very thin, invisible metal oxide layer to the inner surface of one pane in the unit. This coating lets daylight through freely while reflecting long-wave heat radiation, so heat inside the home does not escape in winter. In solar control versions, a large share of the sun’s heat energy is also kept outside.
Where Is It Used?
It is the best choice for south and west facing living room and bedroom windows, wide sliding and lift-and-slide systems, winter gardens and double-glazed glass balconies. On facades catching the afternoon sun in Ortaca, Dalaman and Sarıgerme, it limits overheating and reduces air-conditioning use.
Advantages
- Significantly lower heat loss than standard double glazing.
- A cooler interior in summer with the solar control version.
- Savings on air-conditioning and heating.
- Less condensation because the glass surface stays warmer.
- Reduced UV rays that fade furniture and curtains.
- Natural appearance; the coating is not visible.
Technical Information
The Ug value of Low-E double glazing ranges from 1.0 to 1.6 W/m²K depending on cavity fill and coating type. Filling the cavity with argon gas improves insulation further. In solar control + Low-E combinations the solar energy transmittance (g value) drops to about 0.30–0.45, meaning noticeably less heat enters in summer. Light transmittance remains high, so rooms do not become dark.
Sizes and Installation
Because Low-E double glazing can be made in the same size and thickness as standard units, it can be fitted to existing PVC and aluminium windows without changing the profile. During installation it is important that the coated surface faces the correct side; the production label is checked for this.
Maintenance
As the coating sits between the panes, it is not damaged during cleaning; ordinary glass cleaner can be used. During the free survey and measurement we plan together which windows should have solar control glass and which standard Low-E, based on the direction your facades face.
