A Fresh, Hygienic Bathroom with a Shower Enclosure

A shower enclosure separates the shower area from the rest of the bathroom, stopping water from splashing around, while giving the bathroom a modern, spacious look. It is far more hygienic than a shower curtain: it does not harbour mould or bacteria and is easy to clean. It is one of the most popular parts of bathroom renovations in homes, guesthouses and apart hotels in and around Ortaca.

Shower Enclosure Models

• Straight (wall-to-wall) enclosure: for recessed showers between two walls, with sliding or hinged doors.
• Corner enclosure: square or rectangular, fitted where two walls meet.
• Quadrant (curved) enclosure: its curved glass saves space in small bathrooms and softens the corner.
• Frameless (walk-in) enclosure: a single fixed glass panel for a minimal, modern look.

Glass Choice and Safety

Only tempered glass should be used in shower enclosures. Tempered glass is much stronger than ordinary glass and, if it breaks, crumbles into small, blunt granules instead of sharp shards. Thicknesses of 6 mm or 8 mm are usual, or 8–10 mm in frameless models. Clear, frosted (sandblasted), tinted or patterned glass is chosen for privacy and décor.

Preventing Limescale

Hard mains water in our region can leave limescale marks on glass. Choosing glass with an anti-limescale (nano) coating makes water bead and run off, which makes cleaning easier. Wiping the glass with a squeegee after each shower and keeping the room ventilated keeps it shiny for years.

Profiles and Accessories

Shower enclosure profiles are aluminium in chrome, matt black, white or brushed finishes. Hinges, handles and rollers should be stainless; accessories that rust in a humid bathroom spoil the look and can even affect glass safety. Transparent seals are used under doors and at glass joints for watertightness.

Measuring and Installation

Ready-sized enclosures do not fit every bathroom; bathrooms with walls out of plumb or non-standard spaces need made-to-measure production. During the free survey and measurement, wall plumb, tray or floor slope, drain direction and door swing area are checked. On installation the profiles are fixed to the wall with stainless screws and joints are sealed with sanitary silicone. It is recommended not to use the shower for about a day after installation so the silicone can cure.

Maintenance

Cleaning the glass with non-abrasive cleaners instead of strong acidic descalers and checking the seals and rollers once a year is enough. Worn seals and rollers are replaced by our service team.

Questions to Ask When Choosing a Shower Enclosure

• Will a shower tray be used, or is there a level-access (tiled, sloped) shower floor?
• Do the positions of the bathroom door and basin allow the enclosure door to open?
• Is the bathroom used by children or elderly people? Is step-free access or a grab bar needed?
• Is the bathroom windowless? Poor ventilation increases condensation and limescale.
