Why Insect Screens Matter in Ortaca and Dalyan

Ortaca is surrounded by the Dalyan channel, Lake Köyceğiz and irrigated farmland. This natural richness also brings dense mosquito and small insect populations in summer. Keeping windows closed on hot summer nights increases air-conditioning use and electricity bills, while leaving them open can mean sleepless nights. The right insect screen lets you ventilate your home naturally while keeping insects out and reduces the need for chemical repellents. In guesthouses and holiday homes, a good insect screen directly means happier guests.

Types of Insect Screens

The choice depends on the opening type of the window or door, how often it is used and whether there are pets at home. The main systems are:

  • Pleated insect screen: the mesh folds like an accordion and slides sideways; ideal for doors and wide windows.
  • Hinged insect screen: opens like a door with a sturdy frame; the most common choice for tilt and turn windows.
  • Sliding insect screen: runs on the track of sliding windows and doors or on its own track.
  • Roller insect screen: rolls up into a cassette and disappears when not in use.
  • Pet screen: uses a thick mesh resistant to cat and dog scratches.
  • Fixed clip-on screen: an economical solution for rarely opened windows.
  • Glass balcony screen: fitted to the inside or outside of folding glass balconies.

Mesh Types and Selection

Performance depends largely on the mesh. Standard fibreglass mesh is light, transparent and affordable. Polyester pleated mesh folds and lasts a long time. Pet mesh is a thick, PVC-coated polyester fabric that resists scratching and tearing. For homes very close to the lake, a finer mesh can be chosen against tiny sandflies; keep in mind, though, that a finer weave slightly reduces airflow.

Profile and Colour

Screen frames are made from aluminium profiles with electrostatic powder coating. White, anthracite, brown and wood-effect options match the colour of your PVC joinery. In seaside areas such as Göcek and Sarıgerme, quality coating and stainless accessories are important for a long life.

Why Accurate Measuring Matters

A badly measured screen lets insects in around the edges, rubs against the sash or does not close. During the free survey and measuring, our team checks the inner and outer frame dimensions, the opening direction, handle and sill positions and recommends the most suitable system. Screens can be fitted without removing your existing PVC windows.

Installation and Care

Fitting usually takes half an hour to an hour per window. There is no need to remove the screen in winter; brushing it occasionally with a soft brush to prevent dust build-up is enough. Regularly checking the cords and springs of pleated and roller systems extends their life. Torn mesh can be replaced without changing the frame; this is part of our repair and service range.

For Guesthouses and Holiday Homes

In properties with many rooms, using the same system and mesh type on every window gives a uniform look and makes future spare parts and mesh replacement easier. For bulk orders we measure all rooms in a single survey and schedule installation around guest arrivals.

In Ortaca, Dalyan, Köyceğiz, Dalaman and Sarıgerme, placing your order before the season starts helps you avoid waiting during the busy period.

Frequently asked questions about Insect Screen Systems

A pleated screen opens and folds sideways thanks to its accordion-like mesh; it suits wide balcony and terrace doors and is almost invisible when not in use. A hinged screen is a framed leaf that opens and closes like a door; with spring hinges it can close by itself and is more durable on frequently used kitchen or garden doors. For windows, hinged or fixed screens are usually preferred. During the survey we recommend the most suitable model based on opening direction and frequency of use.

A pet screen uses a special mesh with thicker fibres and a tighter weave that resists pets’ claws much better. Normal mesh tears quickly when a cat or dog climbs it, while pet mesh withstands this strain for much longer. It is usually used on garden doors and lower window sections that pets can reach. If needed, an extra protective panel can be added to the lower part of a door screen. It looks slightly darker and more visible than normal mesh.

Yes. If the screen’s frame, hinges and mechanism are sound, only the mesh can be replaced. This is more economical than renewing the whole screen. For pleated screens, the mesh and cords work as a unit, so replacement is assessed according to the condition of the mechanism. We sometimes replace mesh on site and sometimes take the screen to the workshop. During the visit we check the frame and tell you honestly whether repair or renewal makes more sense. If you have pets, you can also choose pet mesh when replacing it.

Not with the right model. On inward-opening uPVC windows the screen is fitted outside or onto the frame, so you can open and close the sash freely. For outward-opening or sliding windows, a pleated, sliding or hinged screen is chosen according to how the sash moves. Details such as the handle, shutter box and sill are checked during the survey. The aim is that you can use the window for ventilation and cleaning without problems while the screen is fitted. If needed, the hinge side of the screen is also set according to the sash opening direction.

Usually not. Pleated and sliding screens can be folded away when not in use, so they can stay in place all year. Hinged and fixed screens can also remain fitted in winter; however, on facades very close to the sea or exposed to strong winds, removing and storing them if they will not be used all winter can extend their life. In either case, cleaning the mesh with a soft brush and water once or twice a year and keeping tracks and hinges free of dust is enough maintenance.
