A sliding glass balcony is a system in which framed tempered glass panels slide sideways on two or three parallel tracks. Unlike folding systems the panels do not stack in a corner but slide in front of one another. So, depending on the number of panels, half or two thirds of the opening can be opened rather than all of it.
Where Is It Used?
It suits apartment balconies, shop and business fronts, guesthouse corridors and enclosed terraces where ease of use and good value matter. In Ortaca and Dalaman it is chosen for windy balconies thanks to its sturdy framed panels.
Advantages
- Simple, easy use with no folding needed.
- Sturdy build and wind resistance with framed panels.
- Good dust and rain protection with brush seals.
- Panels can be left open at any width.
- Economical compared with other glass balcony types.
Technical Design
Sliding glass balconies usually use 6–8 mm tempered glass, slim aluminium sash frames and ball-bearing rollers. Double-glazed versions are also available. Thanks to overlaps and brush seals at the panel joints, wind and rain are blocked better than in folding systems. Lockable panels increase security.
Sizes and Installation
Panel width is chosen between 60 and 120 cm; two, three or four-track layouts are possible depending on balcony length. During installation the bottom track is fixed on the balustrade and the top track to the ceiling; drainage holes in the bottom track let water run out. On corner balconies the connection is made with corner posts. Installation is usually completed in one day.
Maintenance
Regular track cleaning and an annual roller check are enough. Worn rollers are easily replaced by our service team. The glass is cleaned with standard glass cleaner; to clean the outside, panels are slid in front of one another for access from inside.
