A manual roller shutter is an aluminium shutter operated by hand with a strap or crank mechanism instead of an electric motor. In the strap system the shutter is raised by pulling the strap inside; in the crank system a handle reaching inside is turned to move the shutter through a gear mechanism. As it needs no electricity, it works without problems during power cuts.
Where Is It Used?
It is an economical solution for small and medium windows such as bedrooms, children’s rooms, kitchens and bathrooms. It is popular in apartments in Ortaca and Köyceğiz, guesthouses in Dalyan and projects where many windows need shutters at a reasonable cost.
Strap or Crank?
- Strap shutter: suitable for light shutters up to about 150 cm wide and the most economical option. The strap is collected in a winder box mounted on the inside wall.
- Crank shutter: needs less effort thanks to the gear mechanism and is used for larger shutters up to about 250 cm wide. There is no risk of a strap snapping.
Advantages
- Needs no electricity and works during power cuts.
- Economical compared with motorised systems.
- Effective external protection against sun and heat.
- Privacy and complete blackout.
- Can be converted to motorised operation later.
Sizes and Installation
Manual shutters are made to the window size. During installation the box is fixed above the window and the guides on both sides; for the strap or crank, a passage is drilled through the wall or frame on the inside. This passage is properly sealed to prevent water and air leaks. Installation usually takes a short time per window.
Maintenance
In strap systems the strap may wear over time; it is best replaced as soon as wear is noticed, before it snaps. Cleaning the guides and lubricating them with silicone spray keeps the shutter running lightly. Strap replacement, crank repairs and slat replacement are carried out on site by our service team.
