A winter garden is an insulated living space built on a home’s garden, terrace or roof, with glazed side walls and usually a glazed roof. It keeps the feeling of being close to nature while creating an extra space that is sheltered from rain, wind and cold and can be used all year round.
Where Is It Used?
In detached houses it serves as a living room extension, dining area or work corner; in guesthouses and boutique hotels as a breakfast room; in restaurants and cafés as extra seating that can also be used in winter. During the mild but rainy winters of Ortaca and Köyceğiz, it is also a valuable way for businesses in Dalyan to extend the season.
Advantages
- A bright living space usable in every season.
- Energy efficiency with thermally broken profiles and double glazing.
- Uninterrupted connection with the garden and the view.
- Sliding, folding or opening wall options.
- Opening roof windows and ventilation.
The Right Design for a Hot Climate
In our region the main challenge for a winter garden is not winter cold but summer heat. That is why a mix of insulated sandwich panels and glass in the roof instead of all-glass, Low-E glass with solar control, roof ventilation windows and external shading (awning, blinds or pergola) must be planned. Large opening sashes in the walls turn the winter garden into a terrace in summer. Insect screens can be added to the opening sashes against mosquitoes.
Technical Design
The structure consists of thermally broken aluminium profiles. The roof is designed at a pitch that lets rainwater and leaves run off easily; gutters and downpipes are installed with the system. Laminated glass is used in the roof for safety. Floor insulation and waterproofing are also considered as part of the project.
Design, Permits and Installation
Each winter garden is designed for the project; after the survey, drawings are prepared and production starts with your approval. Some buildings may need municipal permission or management approval; we can guide you on this. Installation can take a few days depending on size.
Maintenance
Cleaning the roof glass and gutters at least twice a year, checking the gaskets and adjusting the opening sashes is recommended. Near pine trees, gutters should be cleaned more often. With a free survey we can discuss winter garden options for your garden or terrace on site.
