A pleated insect screen is a sliding screen in which polyester mesh folds like an accordion into a side profile. When you pull the handle the mesh opens and closes the gap; when you push it back it folds and hides inside a profile just a few centimetres wide. Tension cords keep the mesh stable in any position.
Where Is It Used?
Balcony doors, garden doors, wide windows and lift-and-slide systems are the most common uses. For families in Ortaca and Dalyan who keep the balcony door open all summer, a pleated screen offers both easy passage and an insect-free interior. Because it can be made as a single leaf or a double leaf meeting in the middle, it also suits very wide openings.
Advantages
- Trip-free passage thanks to the low threshold; safe for children and the elderly.
- Almost invisible when not in use.
- Mesh stays in any position thanks to tension cords.
- Stable in the wind; does not flap or wrap.
- Single or double leaf for doors, windows and wide openings.
Sizes and Installation
A pleated screen can be fitted up to about 180 cm wide as a single leaf, 360 cm as a double leaf and 280 cm high. It is mounted on the inside or outside of the frame; handle and sill positions are taken into account during the survey. The bottom track adds only a few millimetres to the threshold. There is no need to remove the existing PVC door, and fitting is usually completed within an hour.
Care
Occasionally brushing the mesh with a soft brush or a vacuum brush attachment is enough. Avoid sand and dust building up in the bottom track; in homes near the beach such as in Sarıgerme, wiping the track once a month is recommended. If the tension cords loosen over time, our service team adjusts them on site; worn pleated mesh can be replaced without changing the frame.
