Frames that suit Akyaka architecture
Akyaka is known for its Cittaslow status and its distinctive architecture. The building style pioneered by Nail Çakırhan, with timber facades, deep eaves and stone bases, defines the look of the whole town. As a result, a standard white uPVC window rarely suits a building in Akyaka. Here we recommend woodgrain-laminated uPVC and aluminium in wood or anthracite finishes that respect the character of the facade.
Meeting local rules
Zoning and architectural rules on the external appearance of buildings apply in Akyaka. For anything that affects the facade, such as frame colour, glazing bar layout or a glass balcony, we confirm compliance with zoning and architectural rules with the municipality before starting work. Where needed, we also help homeowners prepare product information and visuals for their application.
Wind and the Azmak
- Afternoon wind: the summer wind on the Gulf of Gökova puts strain on sliding doors and glass balconies in shoreline homes; glass thickness and fixings are chosen to suit exposed elevations.
- The Azmak area: the clear Azmak river and surrounding reed beds bring mosquitoes in the evening, so we recommend fine-mesh screens on every opening sash.
- Salty air: for buildings near the shore we prefer stainless or coated hinges, handles and locks.
Pre-season maintenance for guesthouses and holiday lets
Akyaka has many guesthouses, boutique hotels and holiday lets. A maintenance round before the season opens heads off guest complaints from the start. It covers renewing torn screen mesh, adjusting sagging sashes, replacing hardened gaskets and identifying misted double glazing units so a replacement plan can be drawn up. Doing this in spring, before the town fills up, is easiest for both the business and our team.
Visit planning
Akyaka is about an hour and five minutes from Ortaca. We group surveys here with Ula and Gökova on the same day. Sharing photos, approximate sizes and any information you have from the municipality in advance speeds the process up.
