In sliding PVC systems the sashes do not swing in or out; they glide sideways on top and bottom tracks to create an opening. This means you can place furniture, curtains or plant pots where a swing sash would open and save space even in small rooms.
Where Is It Used?
Balcony and terrace exits, kitchen doors to the garden, café and shop fronts and guesthouse balconies are the most common uses. In Ortaca and Sarıgerme homes where doors stay open all day in summer, combining a sliding door with a sliding insect screen gives both a cool breeze and protection from mosquitoes.
Advantages
- Saves interior space as no swing area is needed.
- Large glass areas for plenty of daylight and views.
- Light, quiet movement on ball-bearing rollers.
- Lockable handle and multi-point locking options.
- Can be left open without the risk of slamming in the wind.
Technical Design
In standard sliding systems two or more sashes run on parallel tracks. Brush seals and sash overlaps keep out dust and wind. Thermal performance is slightly lower than swing systems, but quality brush seals, double glazing and a good threshold detail give enough comfort for daily use. For wide facades where insulation is more critical, a lift-and-slide system can be considered.
Sizes and Installation
Sliding window sashes are usually 60–150 cm wide, and door heights range between 2.20 and 2.40 m. During installation it is critical that the bottom track is perfectly level; otherwise the sash may drift or move stiffly. On balcony doors the threshold must be positioned to drain rainwater outward, which prevents water entering during winter rains.
Maintenance
Sand, dust and leaves collecting in the tracks shorten roller life. Cleaning the tracks with a vacuum or brush once a month and having the rollers checked once a year is enough. Near the sea, wiping the tracks with a damp cloth helps against salt build-up. Roller replacement and sash adjustment are done on site by our service team.
