A gulf known for its wind
The inner Gulf of Gökova is known for the strong wind that blows almost every summer afternoon. It is a gift for windsurfers and kitesurfers, but for homes near the shore it means a serious load on glass balconies, large sliding doors and wide windows. When choosing products in Gökova, we start by assessing how the elevation faces the wind.
Choosing for wind load
- Glass thickness on glass balconies: thicker toughened glass and narrower panels on exposed elevations.
- Reinforced fixings: secure anchoring of top and bottom tracks to the structure and additional locking points.
- Gaskets and brushes on sliding doors: details that keep out wind-blown dust and sand and reduce whistling.
- The right screen type: tracked pleated or hinged screens on windy doors instead of loosely hanging mesh.
Wetlands and mosquitoes
The wetlands, reed beds and freshwater sources such as Kadın Azmağı around Gökova give the area a special natural beauty. The same environment also brings mosquitoes on summer evenings. To be able to leave windows open once the wind drops in the evening, we recommend fine-mesh screens on every opening window and door.
Practical solutions for holiday homes
Many homes in the area are holiday homes used for part of the year. In houses left closed over winter, hardened gaskets, dirty tracks and salt-related corrosion of fittings are common problems. We therefore offer stainless or coated hardware, easy-to-clean tracks and screens that can be fitted quickly at the start of the season and removed at the end.
Travel and planning
Gökova is about an hour and five minutes from Ortaca. We plan surveys together with visits to Ula and Akyaka. Holiday home owners who contact us in spring, before the season opens, make it much easier to have installation finished by early summer.
