A fixed clip-on insect screen is the simplest and most economical screen type, with mesh stretched on an aluminium frame and fixed to the window frame with plastic or metal clips. It has no opening sash; when needed, the clips are turned and the screen can easily be removed and refitted.
Where Is It Used?
It is ideal for windows whose glass does not need frequent cleaning and which usually open in the tilt position, such as bathroom and toilet windows, pantries, storerooms, stairwells and attic windows. It is also a popular way for guesthouses and apart hotels to fit screens to many windows quickly and affordably. In holiday homes in Dalyan and Ortaca it is a fast pre-season solution.
Advantages
- The most economical insect screen solution.
- Fast installation with minimal drilling.
- Easily removed and refitted thanks to the clips.
- Works perfectly with tilting windows.
- Low cost for many windows.
Sizes and Installation
The fixed screen is made to within a few millimetres of the inner or outer frame size. The clips are screwed to the edge of the frame and the screen frame sits between them. On inward-opening tilt and turn windows the screen is fitted outside, which means it must be removed to clean the outer glass. For windows that are cleaned often, a hinged screen is therefore more practical.
Care
If not used in winter, the screen can be removed by turning the clips and stored away from the sun, which extends the mesh life. The mesh is cleaned with a soft brush. Bent frames and torn mesh are easily replaced.
When Should You Choose It?
For windows whose glass is rarely cleaned, which are mostly used in the tilt position and where budget is the priority, a fixed clip-on screen is the most sensible choice. For frequently used windows such as bedrooms and living rooms, hinged or pleated systems are more practical in the long run.
